HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. Tuesdays general election will feature contested races at the town and county level for Hastings residents, however there is no election of village officials this year. The Daily Hastings has compiled the basics for each candidate in each race to help locals make their final decision.
Incumbent Legislator MaryJane Shimsky is seeking reelection to the District 12 county legislature seat. Shimsky is running in hopes of starting her first full term after being appointed to the board this past February. She is running on the Democratic Party line as well as the Working Families line. Shimsky has said she would like to better prepare the county for flooding, work on fixing county owned bridges and increasing government productivity through environmentally friendly legislation.
Conservative Party line candidate John Russo is hoping to garner enough write-in votes to oust Shimsky as the District 12 legislator. He has said he looks to decrease taxes by cutting spending and legislator salaries, work on shutting down Indian Point and creating alternative sources of energy for the county.
Westchester County Board of Legislators District 12 consists of Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings, Irvington and parts of unincorporated Greenburgh, including Edgemont and most of Hartsdale.
