Breaking News: Westchester Man Charged With $150,000 Superstorm Sandy Scam

Chemka Opens Just in Time to Cool Off Hastings

Just in time to combat the brutally hot summer sun, the Hastings-on-Hudson local watering hole will be opening its gates.

The Hastings village pool, Chemka Pool, opens Saturday May 28. With the sun scorching down, now is a perfect time to relax by the pool. The pool is open to the public and free to residents this Saturday only. Memberships for this summer are also for sale all weekend long. A full-season family pass for the summer, which starts June 1, is $507 for the season. More information on season passes can be found in the Chemka Pool brochure .

The Chemka Pool is expecting "a pretty big crowd because of the weather," said Kendra Garrison, who was busy opening the pool alongside others in preparation of Saturday.

With a long and presumably hot summer ahead, Garrison is expecting the crowds to peak mid-summer.

"July is usually very busy for us," Garrison said. "August it starts to ween off."

Last Memorial Day the pool was one of the most popular places in town, attracting approximately 700 people according to Garrison.

With that in mind, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get to Chemka early. The pool's hours, including Memorial Day, this weekend are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and continue on that schedule each weekend all summer long. Weekday hours vary throughout the summer. From May 28-June 26 the pool is open 3 p.m-8 p.m. and from June 27-Aug. 21 the weekday hours are 12:30 p.m.-8 p.m. From Aug. 22-Sep. 5 the weekday hours are 12 p.m.-8 p.m. and then in the final week of the season from Sep. 6-Sep. 11 the weekday hours are 3 p.m.-7 p.m. and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on the weekends.
