County Rehabs Sidewalks On Dobbs Ferry Bridge

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Dobbs Ferry residents should be ready for construction detours as work begins Thursday, Feb. 25, on modifications to the sidewalk on the north side of the Ashford Avenue Bridge in preparation for this summer's demolition of the bridge.

The construction is the first step in a 33-month project.

The construction is the first step in a 33-month project that will be broken into three primary stages plus a pre-stage. During stages one and two, Ashford Avenue will be reduced from four lanes (two lanes in each direction) to two lanes (one lane in each direction). In order to reduce the duration of full-time lane reductions on Ashford Avenue, pre-stage activities will occur with off-peak lane closures on Ashford Avenue.

To accomplish the work, the westbound right lane of Ashford Avenue will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays, until the work is completed, likely on Monday, Feb. 29. The north sidewalk will be closed during this work with pedestrians detoured onto the south sidewalk.

If the weather cooperates, the entrance and exit ramp to the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway will be closed several weeks later. Variable message signs will be deployed approximately two weeks prior to the ramp closure to better notify the public.
