DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Becky O’Donohue has changed focus slightly since her days as an athlete at Dobbs Ferry High School, trading basketball and volleyball for an acting career in Hollywood.
“Building an acting career has been unbelievably exciting,” O’Donohue said. “I started out not knowing many people in the entertainment world and now when I walk into an audition room, they know who I am and the work I'm capable of. It's taken a lot of hard work to get where I am today though.”
O’Donohue will be featured as the character “Sasha” in this week’s episode of “The Mentalist,” which will air on Thursday night Feb. 2.
Her career has shifted into high gear this winter, as she has taped guest starring roles for CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory” and “CSI: NY.” She appeared most recently on the big screen seen with her twin sister Jessica in the Screen Gems film, “Mardi Gras: Spring Break.”
The twins, who played Division I basketball together at Niagara University, class of 2003, auditioned together for “American Idol” in the show’s fifth season, but Jessica could not sing due to a recent throat surgery. Becky did audition and went on to the final 24 semifinals. They also appeared together alongside Adam Sandler in the Universal Studios film, “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.”
Becky has worked on other television shows such as “CSI: Miami,” “House” and “Psych.” While she is currently in the throes of a television pilot season, she loves taking time out to watch “New Girl” and her fellow high school friend Max Greenfield.
“I continue to work on my creative skills every day and I need to continue to put myself in front of casting directors and producers to be able to play at the next level,” O’Donohue said. “Being an athlete first has taught me how to perform under pressure, how to handle stress, how to have a great work ethic and how to take criticism and direction well. My athlete mentality has helped mold me into the actor I am today.”
Sister Jessica recently appeared on NBC’s “Harry’s Law” where she played both roles of identical twins. Their younger sister Allie, who was also an athlete at Dobbs Ferry, is currently studying law at Georgetown University.
