DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Jillian Renz knows a thing or two about Dobbs Ferry and now she's trying her hand at starting a business in the town she's grown up in. The 24-year-old, who is a senior at Mercy College and a Dobbs Ferry High School alumna, recently opened her own shop in the village at 35 Cedar St.
The new store, called Adriana's, specializes in an assortment of products such as custom t-shirts, candy, jewelry, gift ideas, sporting items, makeup, nail polish and more. According to Renz the idea behind the shop is to stay relevant with what's popular at the time, which is why the theme of the store will be constantly changing.
"It's basically going to change every month," Renz said. "So we're going to have something for the holidays, something for every month."
With average prices between $10-$15, Renz said her goal is create a store that is fun yet inexpensive.
"It's so hard to go out and do things when you're trying to save money, but a little thing can go a long way to make you happy," she said.
Growing up in Dobbs Ferry Renz has witnessed what works in the village and what doesn't so she said her aim is to accommodate as many people as possible.
"I'm very girly and this town has a lot of young girls, but also for the guys were trying to just accommodate everyone and just kind of ride with what's going on, like the hits that are on TV."
Having come up with the idea a mere two months ago, Renz said she's worked at a frantic pace to open the store on Cedar St.
"It's something that I didn't think was going to be so difficult, but it doesn't even matter because it's so rewarding just watching your ideas come alive."
