DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. ? A creative writing workshop serving Dobbs Ferry teens, adults and seniors has gotten a financial boost from ArtsWestchester.

The program at the Dobbs Ferry Public Library is one of 35 groups, artists and special projects sharing $41,000 in Arts Alive grants from the county organization.

The grants are made possible by funding from the Decentralization Program of New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA).

ArtsWestchester is New York State’s largest private, not-for-profit service organization. It helps make the arts accessible to county residents by providing grants and technical support to cultural organizations and artists in the community.

State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins (35th District) presented the grants to 35 local organizations earlier this month.

“The partnership between New York State Council on the Arts and local arts councils such as ArtsWestchester ensures that the arts are at the heart of community life,” Stewart-Cousins said. “This is how young people become engaged, where careers begin and where talents emerge and grow.”

The grants support artistic expression through various medias, including the performing arts, multimedia exhibitions and music.

“These programs make the arts easily accessible to hundreds of people by bringing neighbors together for a common experience," ArtsWestchester CEO Janet Langsam said. "The grants truly help foster a sense of community.”
