DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. Local kids gathered at the corner of Main St. and Cedar St. as they counted down to the lighting of the holiday tree.
The tree lighting was only part of the celebrations this year, though, as a parade for the state champion football team preceded the lighting.
With spirit and pride and tradition you see that anything is possible when you have these ingredients, Village Mayor Hartley Connett said.
Local residents filled the streets and carolers went door to door singing holiday tunes. Santa Claus was on hand, as well as kids, who flocked to share their wish lists.
Champions not only this year, but also literally the greatest football program in the history of the State of New York, Connett said.
State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D 35th District) spoke to the crowd that was gathered at the corner of Main St. and Cedar St.
Its not about just getting up and running a ball around, Stewart-Cousins said. It takes a lot of hard work, it takes dedication, it takes discipline. It takes support from all of your support system. It takes hearing what the messages are and it takes follow through. It takes courage and it takes teamwork. Thats what makes champions and thats what were looking at.
