Dobbs Ferry Native Puts On ‘A Show Of A Different Variety’

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Growing up, Dobbs Ferry native Craig Campanaro was attracted to the glitz and glamour of variety shows, and admired performers like Dean Martin or the hijinks involved in "I Love Lucy" and "The Carol Burnett Show."

“I loved those sketch shows, and watching the beautiful dancing numbers,” recalls Campanaro, who works at his parents store Reader Hardware at 133 Main St. “I wanted to do something like that, and no one is going to pay me to do it so I figured might as well do it myself.”

“A Show of a Different Variety” will be performed on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. at Stolen Moments’ Pickwick Theater, 39 Cedar St.

The sketch comedy show includes music, dance and “a satirical look into the headline news and the people who bring it to us.”

Tickets are $25 each and include a complimentary post-show wine and dessert reception.

Campanaro, who quit his job on Wall Street around 2005 to work with his parents and study theater, says his goal was to tell the world how he really feels about the news.

“Although we know the news deceives us and sometimes lies to us, we are addicted to it,” said Campanaro. “We can’t get enough of it and I’m fascinated by that. I think most people are fascinated by the news and how quickly it can put a spin on things.”

Campanaro said his only hope for his production company Hot Lips Production’s show is for everyone involved to have a good time, including the local members of the cast:

  • Craig S. Campanaro: Host, Dobbs Ferry
  • Marisa Lowe: Jane Goodwin, Peekskill
  • Sharon Shahar: Tanya Thirstin, Ardsley
  • Neil Lavey: Wolf Blitzed, Dobbs Ferry
  • Scott De Spirito: Mike Mime, Dobbs Ferry
  • Karen Hanley: Producers Asst. #1/Chorus/ Suzy “Trailer Trash”/ Harmonica Lewdinsky, White Plains
  • Josh Miller: Producer Asst. #2/Chorus, Bronx
  • Antonios Papadogiannis: Tony the Producer, Bronx
  • Crystal Gao: Pianist, Dobbs Ferry
