Franklin Rauhofer is a specialist in the United States National Guard Post 1048 and was part of the rifle salute to honor fallen soldiers. He's pictured standing next to an army vehicle that he drove to lead the way for the Memorial Day parade in Dobbs Ferry on Monday. Rauhofer raised his rifle and fired three shots at one point during the ceremony to honor fallen soldiers.
Father Tim Scannell gave the invocation and the benediction as he led the prayer for the ceremony. Scannell thanked all those who had given their lives protecting the United States and gave a chilling statement that set the tone for the honorary parade.
"Freedom isn't free," Scannell said.
It was all he needed to say as the Dobbs Ferry crowd applauded and cheered the veterans who had sacrificed so much to help give them the freedoms they enjoy.
