DOBBS FERRY, N.Y -- Dobbs Ferry Schools Superintendent Lisa Brady sent a message to the school community Wednesday addressing what she termed "an inaccurately reported" information about alleged numerous racial-charged Tweets by students at a recent basketball game.

"Last night (Tuesday, March 11), News 12 inaccurately reported on the  early evening news that Dobbs Ferry suspended 20 students for sending racially charged Tweets following our basketball game vs. Woodlands last week," Brady said in a statement. "I was able to quickly contact News 12 after the initial story and clarify the facts prior to the 10 p.m. broadcast."

The Dobbs Ferry and Woodlands girls teams met in the Section 1 high school basketball tournament on March 1 with Woodlands defeating Dobbs Ferry in a close 49-48 victory.

Brady said It was brought to the district's attention late last week that one students tweeted a derogatory slur directed towards the opposing team following the game at the County Center.

"The Tweet was isolated to one student and we took immediate disciplinary action by suspending the student," Brady said. "The Dobbs Ferry School District has zero tolerance with regard to this type of behavior. We have already had follow up discussions with many of our students about social media, the importance of maintaining a positive digital footprint, and the importance of good sportsmanship both during and after all athletic events. Please know that this incident is not reflective of our student body, our district, and the Dobbs Ferry community."

There is an ongoing investigation and controversy over a number of racist tweets by Mahopac High School students following the Section 1 tournament game between Mount Vernon-Mahopac boys two weeks ago.
