DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. With the holidays just around the corner, many local businesses are gearing up for the expected increase in customers shopping. Dan DAngelo, who owns The Village Soccer Shop, said this is the time of the year when he expects to be a little busier.
It starts to pick up now, he said. For me a lot of people know Im here and they kind of come in and do their last minute shopping after all the craziness dies down of the frenetic Black Friday couple of days.
Local shop owners argue they can provide deals and services that simply arent available at the bigger brand name stores.
Im always giving good deals, DAngelo said. I can make any price I want.
Darci DeMatteo, who owns Say Cheese and Thank You, said the familiar faces in local shops undoubtedly improve the shopping experience as well.
Were just sort of your neighborhood store where not only do you know us but youll run into your neighbor or your friend, she said.
Extra services are also common at DeMatteos Main St. shop as she offers wrapping, packing and shipping with all orders.
Its all about customer service and free gift wrapping, she said. We have a gift for everyone.
Perhaps one of the biggest incentives to shop local is the accountability downtown shops advertise.
If anything does go wrong its a little bit easier to deal with than maybe calling customer service, DAngelo said.
