HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Film crews began working on sets in downtown Hastings Friday in preparation for the filming of a Warner Bros. Television production of the HBO television pilot "The Leftovers" Monday and Tuesday.
Location crews began installing equipment along Main Street in the village as local businesses and residents on Warburton Avenue and the vicinity prepared for the location shoots.
The pilot is co-written by Damon Lindelof ("Lost," "Star Trek") and Tom Perrotta ("Election," "Little Children") and based on Perrotta's novel about the aftermath of a rapture-like event in a suburban town. Peter Berg ("Friday Night Lights") will direct.
Several scenes are scheduled to be shot along Warburton Avenue and Main Street from 8 a.m. to midnight on both days. There are "No Parking" restrictions along Main St. and Warburton Ave. in the village from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
A parade scene will be filmed along Main Street from Warburton Avenue to Spring Street on Monday The Hastings Laundromat, a local tavern and the SpringStreet area will serve as venues for the shoot. Spring Street will be closed on Tuesday for a stunt car accident.
The streets and municipal parking lots will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking, but sidewalks will be open to pedestrians. Most local businesses will remain open. The film company held a casting call for extras and background actors at the James Harmon Community Center in June. A number of residents will act as extras in the parade and other scenes. Rivertowns venues have been used by film companies several times over the last two years, including the filming of Leonardo DiCaprio's "The Wolf of Wall Street in Ardsley last summer and the television show "Deception" in Hastings in February.
