Members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to the area of 6 Post St., around 8:30 p.m., after being alerted to a gunshot being fired. Officers met with the victim, a 29-year-old Yonkers resident who told officers that he and two friends were standing in front of the grocery store at the location when a suspect approached them and started a dispute, said Sgt. Dean Politopoulos.

The fight escalated to violence when the suspect displayed a handgun and fired one shot in the direction of the victim before fleeing the scene. The victim was not struck, and no injuries were reported, he said.

Detectives from the Major Case Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to investigate, interviewing witnesses, canvassing for surveillance video, and processing forensic and ballistic evidence. The preliminary investigation found that the shooting was not a random event, and detectives have identified a person of interest and an arrest is anticipated, Politopoulos said.
