HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. With power finally being restored to most areas across Westchester, residents were starting to get back into their routines. That is until the power went out again in Hastings Wednesday afternoon as Con Edison crews were depowering wires to clean up the mess. Among the areas with the most on again, off again power was the Hastings community center. After being without full power up until Wednesday morning, employees were all set to get back to work.
"[The power] went out at 12:30," said Lisa O'Reilly. "They're just fixing it, they're up there fixing the transformer, but more of its out."
It was more than just the community center that was affected though as most of Main St. was without power as Con Ed worked on fixing power lines and transformers in the area. O'Reilly said she had heard from a technical worker that the center might lose power, but she wasn't sure.
"I don't think it was an official [notice]," she said. "It's all out. It's not even half power."
Various spots across town were affected as well, even the Chemka Pool on the other side of Hastings. Pool programs, such as Little Splashers and Big Splashers, were cancelled earlier in the week and the pool was closed to swimmers during outages.
The power was on for a short time and was turned right back off, which was an annoyance for many.
"I can't do any work," said Jen Corso, the cable access director for the Hastings TV station. "I can't do any editing, nothing."
Since the community center does not have its own generator, employees weren't able to do much until all the repairs in the area were finished.
"It's very frustrating," Corso said. "I was going to do a little piece for the TV station and the power goes out on me. So hopefully this is the last of it though."
Power was eventually returned to Main St. after a couple of hours in the dark. With this man-made outage, residents are hoping it's the last one for a while.
