Hastings, Dobbs Ferry Split Baseball Doubleheader

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Hastings 12-Under baseball team opened its season Sunday by splitting a doubleheader with neighboring Dobbs Ferry at Zinsser Park. Hastings pitcher Brendan Flynn went 4-plus innings to earn his first win in a 4-2 victory with Elijah Gelfman pitching the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the save.

The home team wasted no time, scoring twice in the first inning when Trevor Hayden and Gelfman scored on a single by Oliver Schapiro. Dobbs Ferry erased the 2-0 deficit by scoring one in the second, but Hastings added another run in the third when Hayden scored on Gelfman's triple for a 3-1 lead. Hastings added an insurance run in the fourth when they executed a double steal. Mike Rotoroti scored and Hastings led 4-1 after four innings.

Dobbs Ferry scored another run in its final at bat to make the score 4-2. In the second game, the Dobbs Ferry bats came alive in a 6-2 victory. Dobbs Ferry’s power came from Mike Archer, who hit two triples and drove in four runs.

Schapiro pitched three innings for Hastings and suffered the loss. The final two frames were pitched by Ethan Saperstein. The Hastings offense was down 3-0 in the bottom of the first when Hayden scored cutting Dobbs Ferry's advantage to 3-1. Dobbs Ferry scored another three runs in the third inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Hastings managed another run in the fourth when Flynn scored on a single hit by Brian Dosin. Hastings (1-1) will play another double header Sunday against the New Rochelle Tigers.
