Hastings Drops Greenburgh in Costello Tourney

HASTINGS-IN-HUDSON, N.Y. – Michael Weiner scored 14 points and Dillon Healy added 12 to pace the Hastings boys’ basketball team to a 59-39 victory over Greenburgh Academy Saturday in the championship game of the John Costello Holiday Basketball Tournament at Hastings High School.

Hastings (3-1) broke open a 28-20 halftime edge with a 17-9 third quarter to open a 16-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

Shamar Gordon led Greenburgh (2-2) with 12 points and Yubiney Henriquez added nine.

Hastings qualified for the tournament final with a last-second game winning shot by Joe Tino in a 36-35 victory over Lab-Museum.

Matt Adipietro added nine points for Hastings.

The John Costello Holiday Tournament is named for the school’s longtime boys’ basketball coach and athletic director who began the tournament in 1963. Costello, who lives in Nanuet, attended the tournament and was honored in tip-off ceremonies.

Hastings’s first-year head coach Ezra Elliott, who has been an assistant football and basketball coach for a decade, won his first Costello Tournament.
