DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Stop & Shop presented its revised proposal to the Dobbs Ferry Board of Trustees Tuesday night to a mostly favorable response. The supermarket expansion project was scaled back from what had previously been presented to the board.
"The scope of the project has been reduced," said Steve Brewer of Wagner Engineering. "The size of the addition has been reduced by about 70 percent."
With the company forced to alter its plan to appease the village, some parts of the proposal had to change, but representatives of Stop & Shop insist it is still a similar product.
"A lot of the character of what that addition was is still there," Brewer said.
Manipulation of the physical ground has been scaled back and the sidewall of the building will stay. The new proposed loading dock is in roughly the same location as well. Brewer said it will bring an additional 1800 square feet of customer floor space. One of the most notable details of the plan is that the parking lot will feature 148 spaces, as opposed to the current 125 spots.
The new plan drew positive responses from several members of the board.
"It's a beautiful store with great parking," said deputy mayor Catherine Kay.
Representatives of the company acknowledged an effort to make the project more aesthetically pleasing.
"We tried to dress it up a little bit more, but still keep it under budget," said architect Mike Graziosi.
Stop & Shop director of real estate Robert Bencivenga said the project, once approved, would take approximately six months to finish. The store plans to remain open throughout construction.
