HASTINGS, N.Y. -- The Hastings Farmers Market was back on Maple Ave. on Saturday afternoon with a wide diversity of foods. The parking lot of the Municipal Building was filled with tents and table of vendors from all over Westchester. The band, Milton, provided the live music as the band played songs throughout the day. With everything from cheese to pastries, there was something for everyone at the Hastings Farmer's Market.
Vendor Jackie Torian had a tent set up selling homemade bruschetta, soup and salsa. Torian just started working the market in Hastings, but she said she hopes to set up another table soon.
"I want to eventually have my own table and make smoothies," Torian said.
On the other side of the market, Stefan Fink had a dairy tent set up for the Amazing Real Live Food Company. Fink had cheeses aged up to six months and his free samples were a hit with shoppers walking through.
Fink also had drinkable yogurts on ice for customers looking for a little refreshment. "They're nice little pick-me-ups for people walking around the market," Fink said.
The Amazing Real Live Food Company is based in Pine Plains, N.Y. and Fink makes the drive to Hastings to serve as much of lower Westchester as possible.
"We're a really small operation," Fink said. "It's the definition of local cheese making."
With a herd of just 60 cows all are raised, fed and milked on the same farm. Fink said that "working closer to the source" of his foods is one of the motivating factors in his job.
