HASTINGS, N.Y. -- Hastings-on-Hudson marches to a different drummer by holding its annual Memorial Day parade on a Sunday afternoon.

The parade begins at Reynolds Field and continues along Main Street, Warburton Avenue, North Street and Maple Avenue.

Westchester County military veteran of the Vietnam era were invited to participate in Hastings' parade this year.

The village, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Defense, honored those veterans who served in the Vietnam War during the 1960s and early '70s. The parade and ceremony was sponsored by the James Daley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 200 and Admiral Farragut American Legion Post 1195.

According to the National Vietnam Veterans Association, of the 2,709,918 Americans who served in Vietnam, fewer than 850,000 are estimated to be alive today; the youngest American Vietnam veteran's age is roughly 58 years old. More than 47,000 American service personnel were killed in action and there were another 11,000 non-combat deaths. More than 150,000 others were wounded and 10,000 were listed as missing in action.

“We want to honor these brave Americans who served our country,” said Lisa O'Reilly, parade coordinator.

The parade assembles at 1:30 p.m. next to Hastings High School. It begins at the intersection of Broadway/Route 9 and Chauncey Lane.

Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner said, "If you haven't been to the Hastings parade in years past, try not to miss this parade. It's a small town at its best parade."

Feiner said he's attended every Memorial Day parade in Hastings for 33 years "and always leave inspired."
