Hastings Mayor to Locals: Off the Streets by 8 PM

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — Fallen tree branches and downed power lines have littered the streets of the village, which has led to lingering effects from this past weekend’s snow storm.  On a night that kids are traditionally out walking the streets for Halloween, Hastings Mayor Peter Swiderski has said all kids should finish trick or treating shortly after sunset.

“We are asking also that all kids are off the streets [Monday] by 8 p.m.,” Swiderski said in a message to residents.  “Yes, I know that's early, but our police force is entirely stretched as it is and has no time and zero patience for shenanigans.”

Swiderski said that it was in the interest of safety that these measures were being enacted in the village.

“It still just isn't safe in many places and while shenanigans are never "o.k.", they're especially uncool when you put your own safety at risk and divert precious police resources,” Swiderski said in the message. 

Con Edison reported on its website as of Monday afternoon there are still 492 customers in Hastings that are without power. Con Edison has stated those most power should be restored by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday.

In an effort to assist those without power, the James Harmon Community Center will be open until 7 p.m. Monday as a charging center and a place to keep warm. Anthony Tarricone owns Equalize Sports on Executive Boulevard and has offered shower facilities to everyone that has lost power.  Equalize Sports is located at 1 Odell Plaza just off of Executive Boulevard.  If you are in need of housing, Andrus-on-Hudson has offered rooms.
