Hastings Pizza Grill Encourages Family Atmosphere

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.  -- Kenny Syla works at the Pizza Grill in Hastings-on-Hudson and said the friendly atmosphere at the restaurant makes his job easy to love. The Pizza Grill has been open in Hastings for the past 10 years. Syla, an Eastchester native, works behind the counter, chats with customers and does a little bit of everything for the local pizza shop. It's the family orientated nature that separates this pizza shop from the rest according to Syla.

"We're pretty kid friendly," he said. "We take care of them like a family over here pretty much."

Hastings High School students Liam Byrne, Mike Iaciofano and John Cotaj agreed with the friendly atmosphere as all three relaxed with their food by the back of the restaurant.

With the family friendly atmosphere there are plenty of loyal customers. In fact Syla said he's seen recurring customers stopping in frequently for the last 10 years. With a large glass window in the back of the store, customers can get a glimpse of the Hudson River while they eat. When asked how he got into the pizza business, Syla said it's something that he's always enjoyed.

"I loved pizza since I was a kid, I'm a pizza fanatic," he said. "I love what I do."

Syla said he got into the food industry because he knew the owner and the job security was tough to beat.

"Everybody always wants to eat," he said.

The Warburton Avenue located pizza store takes pride in its quality of food. Syla said everything is made from scratch and that toppings are carefully cooked into pizzas, rather than thrown on top.

"The only thing we get pre-ordered is the sodas," he said.
