HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. It wasnt a checkpoint that led to Hastings police arresting a driver they said was drunk on New Years Eve, it was actually the assistance of an off-duty officer.
Peter Stevenson, an 18-year-old Hastings resident, was arrested and charged with DWI on Jan. 1. Police said Stevenson was seen driving erratically on Broadway by an off duty New York City police officer, who reported it to Hastings officers. Hastings police caught up to Stevenson in his 2003 Honda and said he appeared to be intoxicated. Police issued him a field sobriety test and charged him with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, driving left of the center of the roadway and having an open container in the vehicle. Police said Stevenson was released on $240 bail.
The baby Jesus was stolen from the nativity scene in front of St. Matthews Church sometime overnight between Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, according to Hastings police. There was no value given for the statue and police said it has yet to turn up.
A 17-year-old Hastings male was issued summons and had his 2008 Ford impounded after police said they pulled him over for passing a stop sign on Jan. 1 shortly after 1 a.m. Police said the juvenile had a junior operator license and was not supposed to be driving past 9 p.m.
