Hastings Police Investigating a Number of Thefts

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- A package containing a credit card machine was stolen from in front of the Hastings Wines & Liquors store on Sept. 17. Police said the machine is valued at $1,200 and the box was left out front of the store at 9 a.m. and it was gone when the store owner arrived.

A cashier from a store on Warburton Ave reported that a young man had stolen a pack of cigarettes valued at $9. Police said the cashier did not witness the larceny, but saw the approximately 16-year-old man reach over the counter and take the cigarettes on security camera footage.

Police said a Dolce bicycle, valued at $2,000, was stolen from a storage closet in a complex on North Broadway. Police said the door was plied open and the lock was broken off of the storage closet between 8:30 p.m. and 12 a.m. on Sept. 17. The bike was originally valued at $1,200, but accessories brought the value up to $2,000 according to police. The matter is still under investigation.

Staff of the St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church reported to police that someone had taken money from the collection box at the church sometime from Sept. 11 to Sept. 19. Police said someone broke into the collection box and stole a total of $30.
