Hastings Police Say Man Tried $9,000 Bank Scam

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Hastings police announced the arrest of 26-year-old Bronx resident Laurell Wells for grand larceny on Thursday. Police said Wells was arrested in connection with an incident at Citibank on Sept. 9. Police said a bank employee reported an apparently fraudulent transaction involving $9,000. Wells presented a fake California driver's license with his photo and the name of a Citibank account holder to a bank teller according to police. Police said they used surveillance video investigate and identify Wells as the man responsible. Wells was charged with grand larceny in the third degree and grand larceny in the fourth degree, which are both felonies. Police said Wells was remanded to the Westchester County Jail.

A store manager at A & P chased down a shoplifter last week after he witnessed a 17-year-old male take a 23.5 ounce can of malt liquor on Sept. 22 around 8:30 p.m. Police said the male is a resident of the St. Christopher's School. After he was apprehended on Main St. by police he was later released and ordered to appear back in court. Police said the can of malt liquor was valued at $3.

A 44-year-old Hastings man reported the theft of his bicycle from the local train station to police last week. Police said the man left his bike locked on the bike rack early last week and he discovered it was missing on Friday, Sept. 23. Police said the bike was a pink and purple Klein Rascal and the value was unknown.
