According to Entertainment Weekly, HBO officially ordered Warner Bros’ "The Leftovers" to be a series early in September. The order includes the show’s pilot and nine additional episodes.
Directed by Peter Berg of "Friday Night Lights," and starring Liv Tyler, Amy Brenneman and Justin Thoreau, portions of the pilot were shot in downtown Hastings in early July with a large cast of extras from the village involved.
Isaac Garson, owner of Slice Pizza on Main Street in Hastings, said he was pleased that the project was moving ahead. The film crew used some of Garson's space for wardrobe during the two-day filming.
"We had a very good relationship with (director) Peter Berg and the whole crew," Garson said. "Hopefully, they will be able to use the village to shoot scenes as they go along. It is a very positive thing for the community."
Based on Tom Perrotta’s book, "The Leftovers," focuses on the people left behind after The Rapture - a Bible based event - occurs.
Villagers hosted two days of filming with several venues used for a parade along Main Street, scenes at the River Roadhouse and the Hastings Laundromat on Warburton ave. and a car crash scene on Spring Street.
The new series becomes the only current HBO Original series that is produced by an outside studio, rather than in house by HBO, according to EW.
There is no air date scheduled for either the pilot or the series. HBOWatch predicts the show may air by sometime next fall.
