Hudson Line Train Service Heavily Modified This Weekend

WESTCHESTER, N.Y. – Regular Metro-North train service on the Hudson Line will resume Friday morning, but alternative service schedules are planned for Saturday and Sunday as crews continue to repair damage caused by the last week’s freight train derailment in the Bronx.

Crews work overnight to continue removing derailed freight cars along Metro-North Railroad's Hudson Line in the Bronx.

On Saturday and Sunday a substitute train, bus and subway schedule for Hudson Line customers will be in effect for service between Yonkers and Grand Central Terminal, the MTA announced. Free subway and bus transfers will be provided.

Customers are strongly encouraged to use the Harlem Line this weekend as they should anticipate 45 to 60 minutes of additional travel time for the connection between Woodlawn and Yonkers, the MTA said. Hudson Line tickets will be honored on the Harlem Line.

Details for the weekend's train/bus schedule are as follows:

  • Hourly Hudson Line train service will operate between Poughkeepsie and Yonkers stations.
  • For southbound Hudson Line service: Trains will serve all stations between Poughkeepsie and Yonkers stations and connect with direct shuttle bus service to the Woodlawn Subway Station for the No. 4 Subway service to 161st-Yankee Stadium and Manhattan.
  • For northbound Hudson Line service: Commuters should take the No. 4 subway service uptown from Manhattan/161st-Yankee Stadium to the Woodlawn subway station. Shuttle bus service will operate directly to the Yonkers Metro-North station and connect with train service to Poughkeepsie.
  • There will be no Hudson Line Yankees game-day service. Direct Yankees game-day service will operate on the Harlem Line this weekend, including an extra Harlem Line train.
  • Ludlow customers should use Yonkers Station.
  • Customers between Riverdale and Morris Heights stations should use NYCT subway and/or local bus service. No shuttle bus service will be available.

Hudson Line train service will resume on a normal schedule by the first morning peak train on Monday, July 29.

Following the derailment of a freight train that was transporting materials and municipal garbage on July 18, train service on the Hudson Line was halted south of Yonkers each weekday evening while crews worked on repairing the damaged track. Bus service replaced trains after 10 p.m. throughout the week and customers were warned to expect delays of up to 45 minutes in additional travel time.
