Tom McGuinness, construction compliance engineer for the state Thruway Authority, told LoHud.com that most work in the middle of the river has been suspended because ice has affected access.

The $3.9 billion project is the largest transportation infrastructure job in the county. Construction officials built two months of no work on the bridge into the schedule to account for weather delays.

The bridge is expected to be finished in 2018. One span is expected to be open to traffic in December 2016. Click here for the LoHud.com story.
