BUCHANAN, N.Y. — The emergency sirens at Indian Point nuclear power plants will sound during a test of the system between 1 and 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16.

Sirens will sound at full-volume for about four minutes in Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties.

The sirens will sound only as a planned test, and no action is necessary on the part of the public.

During an actual emergency, Indian Point Energy Center officials say, sirens would signal the public to tune to a local EAS radio or television station for information and directions. More information on Indian Point emergency planning can be found on the New York State Office of Emergency Management website.
