WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The third winter storm of the week resulted in school closures, accidents and a slippery morning commute in the area on Thursday morning.

Many schools that initially planned delayed openings early in the morning wound up closing for the day when snow became steady around dawn in most of the area.

A total of 3 to 6 inches of snowfall is expected during the day Thursday and a winter weather advisory is in effect until 7 p.m.

Many secondary roads are in poor condition throughout the area, particularly in southern Westchester.

An accident caused delays on southbound I-684 at Route 22 (Exit 3). It was reported at 8:20 a.m.

An accident on northbound I-95 was reported at 8:10 a.m. at Midland Avenue in Rye (Exit 22).

The northbound Saw Mill River Parkway at Ashford Avenue (Exit 17) in Dobbs Ferry was closed briefly following an accident. It was cleared by 8 a.m.

Farther north on the Saw Mill, also northbound, an accident blocked the right lane at Grant Street in Mount Pleasant at 7:23 a.m.

A pair of accidents were also reported on I-287 -- westbound at Route 119 (Exit 5) at 7:37 p.m. and eastbound at Route 100A (Exit 4) at 7:26 a.m.

An accident on the southbound Taconic State Parkway, reported at 7:40 a.m., caused delays at Lakeview Avenue in Valhalla.

An accident was reported on the northbound Bronx River Parkway at the Cross County Parkway at 8 a.m.

Bee-Line buses and Paratransit vehicles are operating with 30 minute delays.

The following routes are operating on the standard snow detour:

Route 16: No service to Strawberry Road and Lexington Avenue. Bus will operate on Route 6 instead.

Route 30: No service to Stone Avenue and Fortfield Avenue. Bus will continue on Lockwood Avenue and Mile Square Road instead.
