PURDYS, N.Y. -- An unidentified person has reportedly been seriously injured after being struck by a Metro-North train in the area of the Purdys station in Northern Westchester on Friday afternoon.

The person was struck by the southbound train at approximately 4:25 p.m. He was conscious and taken by helicopter to Westchester County Medical Center, according to MTA spokesman Salvatore Arena.

It has not been determined how the man was on the tracks, Arena said.

The man, reported to be in his mid 20s, suffered serious injuries to his chest as well as leg injuries, according to lohud.com.

Metro-North is experiencing delays up to 50 minutes on the Harlem Line as a result of the incident.

It is the second incident on Metro-North tracks during the day Friday in Westchester. An unidentified man was found dead on the tracks near the Metro-North station in Rye by a southbound train headed from Connecticut at approximately 7:30 a.m.  An investigation of that incident is ongoing.
