WESTCHESTER/FAIRFIELD - Conductors on Metro-North trains in New York and Connecticut made a fashion change to white shirts and blue cardigans Wednesday as the summer season approaches.

The uniform changes are part of the budgeted seasonal uniform issue with slight changes that include the white tops and a change in sweater style, MTA spokeswoman Majorie Anders said.

"The new uniforms are not an added cost," Anders said. "The employees had input on the changes, and it was decided that white added to the look of authority. The uniform sweater has also changed from a blue pullover to a cardigan."

David Ramsey of Tarrytown was on the Hudson River line Wednesday morning and noticed the new look. "I was sort of surprised when I got on the train," Ramsey said. "I'm usually half asleep and don't notice much on the ride in the New York. It's a nice, fresh look. I'm sure it will be a good thing for the summer anyway."

But the switch to light and white may have come too soon, Ardsley's Renee Albert said.

"A few of the conductors had on blue sweaters, so I didn't see the white shirts," Albert said. "It's not that warm on the trains. But everything goes with white, right?"
