Initial reports of a possible mountain lion sighting in the Dellwood Park neighborhood in northern New City were updated with a photo revealing the creature is believed to be a bobcat.

Information about the sighting was circulated through a neighborhood newsletter that was sent to residents by email.  The photo shows a cat-like animal with spots on its rear legs in the grass.

According to the DEC, "Bobcats are solitary, secretive animals by nature, typically much more scared of humans than we need to be of them".

The Clarkstown Police Department is alerting the public that bobcats are wild animals and that people should keep their distance. For more information on bobcats, please visit the NYS DEC website.
