DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - With less than a month on the job, Dobbs Ferry superintendent Lisa Brady is already looking to make her mark on the school district. Having worked in education for 25 years, Brady has plenty of experience to fall back on.
Starting out as health specialist teacher in Trenton, N.J. she has climbed the ranks to use her experience to help the district.
"One of the other things I'm very proud of is that in a high school of 3,200 kids that I had, every single kid knew who I was," Brady said of her time spent in New Jersey. "So I think that takes a lot of time and really wanting to connect with kids."
Brady has plans to make changes in the district, but said she needs to get a feel for Dobbs Ferry first. Although no ideas have been formulated yet, Brady said integrating more technology into the schools is something that is critical to future success.
"I think we really need to begin to blend the world that kids live in and the way that they use technology in their lives," she said. "It is way too different right now than the way they use technology in schools."
Times are changing and Brady is highly aware of how the schools need to adapt.
"The schools of today don't look like the schools of yesterday," Brady said. "The schools of today cannot look like the schools of yesterday."
Brady isn't the only new face in Dobbs Ferry though, with several new employees filling vacant openings. John Falino has taken over as the Dobbs Ferry High School principal while Julia Drake is the new principal at Springhurst Elementary School.
"There are a lot of new faces in the district, but I think it's an exciting time because we're all coming here with a real passion for being at Dobbs Ferry," Brady said.
