New Rochelle City Manager Chuck Strome announced on Wednesday afternoon that the garage would be temporarily closed down after a section of the first-floor ceiling of the garage deteriorated, with concrete breaking off.

In total, the garage has 388 spaces, with 276 permits and 112 metered spots. No injuries were immediately reported.

“In the interest of public safety, we are closing the garage until further notice effective immediately,” Strome said, noting that permit holders and parkers will be notified directly and further information will be released at a later date.
