The driver of the blue Ford Mustang died at the scene and was identified as Joseph M. Touri, 18, of Rye Brook, police said. His cause of death was massive trauma.

A front-seat passenger was identified as Diana Pineda, 16, of Port Chester. She suffered extensive injuries resulting from partial ejection from the rear window of the vehicle.

Port Chester police and firefighters were called to the scene of a one-car crash on College Avenue near Sycamore Lane at 3:33 p.m. Friday.

A Ford Mustang traveling east on College Avenue left the roadway and struck a tree in a wooded area on the grounds of Park Avenue Elementary School, police said.

The initial investigation indicates excessive speed is a factor in the accident, police said. The Westchester County Police Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene, and police are awaiting their report, Port Chester Police Chief Richard Conway said.

Conway said, "Police are investigating the possibility that this crash involved a speed contest and -- working in conjunction with the Westchester District Attorney’s Office -- have interviewed the driver and passenger of another vehicle that was at the scene."

Port Chester police are seeking the public’s help in locating witnesses to the accident and the events leading up to the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call 914-939-1000.

"Our thoughts are with the families of this tragedy,'' Conway said Saturday.
