HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Even with Tropical Storm Irene striking the area days ago, many are still without power and some residents feel like they've been left in the dark.
"The outage in my building occurred a full three hours prior to the tree which had fallen on Old Broadway, and I was told there was a problem with the feeder for the corner," said Hastings resident Ryan Wieczkowski. "There was no outreach from either the local government or Con Edison for the residents or businesses affected by this, and there have been no crews that I have seen to assess this situation in any way."
As of Tuesday afternoon, Con Ed reported on its website that Hastings had 187 customers without power and a total of 3,436 served. The estimated restoration time for those customers is Thursday at 11:59 p.m.
At that same time, Con Ed reported that Dobbs Ferry had 224 out and a total of 4,153 served and Ardsley had 214 out with a total of 1,786 served.
Hastings Mayor Peter Swiderski said in a message on the village website that Con Ed has two crews dedicated in town and are working to kill downed power lines and hang new ones to fix the issues.
Some don't feel that is enough though and Wieczkowski said he and others "have gone overlooked by the same people that are pretending to care."
As the hours continue to pass without power, residents are beginning to get irritated with the lack of progress in some areas of the village.
"I suppose because I don't live in a big fancy house, my needs aren't to be as readily met," Wieczkowski said. "Not a single public works truck or Con Ed worker has been in my neighborhood as of right now 2 p.m. on Tuesday."
UPDATE: Power was restored to Wieczkowski's block on Main Street Tuesday night.
