HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Hastings-on-Hudson residents and businesses were seeing things a bit more clearly Friday as one third of the village's power was restored at 1 a.m.

Con Ed reported 1,432 out of 3,436 homes in Hastings were without power Friday, down from 2,017 Thursday.

According to Mayor Peter Swiderski, homes in a large portion of the village from Fenwick to Crossbar and Jordan avenues, Tompkins Avenue, High Street, Amherst, Cedar, Prince and James streets, Farragut Avenue, Prescott, Hastings Landing and along Broadway up to the Burke Estate park and Shado-lawn were back on line.

"There are a couple pockets and individual homes within this area (like Harvard and on Pinecrest, for example) that were on the wrong side of a tree-fall and are out of luck for the time being," Swiderski said. "Crews are working on the water tower on Summit hooking that (to maintain water pressure) and they have a couple more pockets to de-power so trees can be cut. They will then get to working to re-power."

Swiderski said Hillside Elementary School and polling centers in the village were a priority ahead of Tuesday’s election and that residences and businesses in the vicinity of Main Street  in the downtown area and the schools on Farragut Avenue and Hillside could be restored as soon as Sunday.

Those who wish to charge phones and laptops will find outlets and Wi-Fi connections at the Municipal Building and the Hastings Library. The high school library is open Friday and Saturday and RSA Computer at 630 Saw Mill River Road in Ardsley is open, has power and free Wi-Fi Internet access. The Station Café is open and has working Wi-Fi as well.

The gym at the high school will be open Friday and Saturday for pick-up basketball.

Regular recycling and garbage pick-up is underway Friday and the Saturday. The  DPW garbage drop off on Southside will be open for those who wish to discard materials.
