Raise Funds, Donate and Learn More in Hastings

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – With Thanksgiving season over and Christmas season on its way there will be plenty of opportunities in between to fundraise, volunteer and also learn a little bit more about the gifts you may be getting or giving this year.

The Hastings Yellowjackets Booster Club will be having its Casino Night Saturday, Dec. 3 from 7:30-11 p.m. at Equalize Fitness.  The Casino Night is one of the club’s first big fundraising efforts as president Bob Wilt has previously said the club is looking to see where it can make its mark in Hastings.

“We’re only a year into this so we’re trying to see where we fit in,” Wilt said.  “We’re really hoping this year to become more visible in the community.”

The Hastings Public Library will be hosting several events in the next month as it hopes to continue as a place where people go for all kinds of needs.

“We are a community center, learning center, arts center and a home for all types of visual and auditory materials,” said library director Sue Feir in a message to residents.  ”But our core mission is still to tell what is new and informative and exciting to read.”

The library will be hosting children’s book illustrator and author Ed Young Sunday Dec. 4 to talk about his new picture book memoir, “The House Baba Built: An Artist’s Childhood in China.”  Young will discuss growing up in Shanghai and will sign copies of his book afterwards.

For that person on your list who you might be giving a tablet to or if you want to simply brush up on your tech skills, the library will have an instructional seminar Dec. 10 on eBooks and tablets.

“Electronic book sales will soon outpace traditional paper,” Feir in a message to residents.  “You wouldn’t know this from walking into your neighborhood library with its row upon row of shelves.”

For those looking to donate this holiday season the Hastings Community Center will also be accepting toys, non-perishable foods, toiletries, pet food, pajamas and all other items.
