Residents React to Dobbs Ferry Road Repaving

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Construction has been prevalent in Dobbs Ferry recently as large chunks of Ashford Ave. are being repaved this week.

With long stretches of unpaved roads and delays from the work, many residents have become frustrated.

“It’s terrible, there are so many diversions,” said Dobbs Ferry resident Rosie Saur. “It’s just really annoying.”

Some have even decided to avoid the construction all together to save time.

“Today I was going to go to CVS in Ardsley, but I’m not doing that now, it’ll take an extra 20 minutes,” said Dobbs Ferry resident Linda Herring.

According to a village message sent to residents, resurfacing of roads will take place on South Washington and Ashford Ave. starting at Southfield Ave. on Friday, Nov. 18.  Alternate side of the street parking will be suspended on Bradley St. as well.  On Monday, Nov. 21 resurfacing will continue on Ashford Ave. and also on Eldridge Place and Livingston Ave. at Broadway. On Tuesday, Nov. 22 resurfacing will take place on Fairlawn.

“The village anticipates long delays and suggests that you consider alternate routes during the resurfacing,” the village said in a message to residents.

Many were frustrated by a perceived lack of necessity for the repaving of the road.

“I hadn’t noticed, I travel it all the time, so I would have noticed all the holes and bumps,” Herring said.

Some agreed roads like Ashford Ave. needed some work, but that the project could have been broken up into smaller parts.

“I saw a few holes developing by the bridge so maybe if they were targeting certain areas, but not the whole thing at once,” Saur said.
