HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. More than 50 artists throughout the villages will once again be showcasing their work as part of the RiverArts Studio Tour in April.
Its a wonderful way to introduce the community to art thats all around them that people might not know about, said studio tour chair Ellen Crane. Its an opportunity for artists to gain exposure and sell work and its a way for the public to see a little of the working process of artists, really see them in their element and the spaces where they create it.
The tour will feature preview galleries with pieces of work from every artist involved, which can be seen at the Irvington Public Library and the Hastings Municipal Building in April. Receptions for the tour will be held April 19 from 7-9 p.m. in Irvington and April 22 from 3-5 p.m. in Hastings. The official tour weekend will actually take place on April 28 and April 29 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. where everyone who participates will be encouraged to visit each artists own studio. The galleries will provide a sample of what local artists have to offer.
All of the artists on the tour are able to hang one piece in one of the preview shows so its a group exhibition and people can stop at the preview shows any time in April and get a taste of what each artists work is like, Crane said. Then people can decide which studios they want to visit during the tour weekend.
This year will mark the 19th year of the studio tour and Crane said its gotten better every time.
Artists want to be a part of the tour because a lot of people really know about it and because we produce a really high quality brochure map that helps people on the tour navigate and its just a nice way to meet other artists, she said.
Brochures featuring a map of the tour with images of each artists work and contact info will be distributed throughout the villages, but can also be found on the RiverArts website.
