Obama used the venue to talk about his healthcare plan and traded barbs with Galiianakis whose off-the-cuff satirical talk show is a favorite of young people who are being targeted by the Obama administration to sign up for coverage.
Hastings teens said they believed "Between Two Ferns" was a good forum for the president to reach young people.
"I feel it makes the President more likable," Nick Mayer said. "You can see his real personality and that he cares abut the issue."
Kolbert said Obama's ability to show a sense of humor is also important.
"Politicians have not really connected with young people and Obama tries to do that," Kolbert said. "We like to see him on these shows. We may not want to watch heavy political news shows, so this is a way of getting the news."
Huembes said he doesn't often watch political programs because they often get bogged down in arguments over issues.
"Shows like ('Between Two Ferns'), this make it more interesting to hear what the president has to say," Huembes said. "And he has a good personality so it helps get to know him."
Squibb said humor can help connect politicians with young people.
"So many issues are not understood because there's so much disagreement," Squibb said. "Maybe this kind of show will help get the information out and that's good."
