Renovations on the 25,000 square-foot space at 29 Tarrytown Rd. Route 119, which was formerly Loehmann's, is already underway for the future site of a Saks Fifth Avenue outlet store, OFF 5TH.

"This is definitely a high-quality business," said Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner. "With them coming to town, I think it will attract other quality businesses."

Loehman's closed its doors in Greenburgh early this year after being in town for decades, according to Feiner, after filing for bankruptcy for the third time. Loehman's shuttered all of its stores, and is now solely online.

Saks Fifth Avenue, owed by Hudson's Bay Company whose brands also include Lord & Taylor, sells items from top European and American designers online and at 39 stores in 22 states. Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH sells more than 800 brands at a 40 to 70 percent discount. The Greenburgh location is expected to open in the spring.

"I think they are going to be very well-received," said Feiner. "I've already gotten a lot of positive comments on my Facebook and LinkedIn pages. People have been emailing and calling me. This is one of the things that people are excited about in town."

"They (Saks Fifth Avenue) have confidence in the Town, and they have had a good experience," said Feiner. "I think other companies are going to look at Greenburgh and say 'Why don't we give them a chance.' I think this gives that momentum."

Feiner said the town is taking initative when it comes to recruiting healthy businesses to Greenburgh. Greenburgh Town Hall will hold a business roundtable on Oct. 23 where buisiensses can express their concerns and suggestions for making it easier to do business in the town.

"We're a also looking at revising our Comprehensive Plan to make it business friendly and cut out some red tape when it comes to dealing with the Town," Feiner said. "There's a lot of things that we want to do, that I personally think, will let businesses know they are welcome. Greenburgh is a desirable place to do business."
