Breaking News: Con Ed Says Crews Are Ready As Fourth Nor'easter Arrives

Saw Mill River Road Still Closed To Traffic

Update 3:45 p.m. -- Route 9A will be closed for at least another two hours, police said.

Update, 9:30 a.m. -- Route 9A is still closed and is set to open before noon.

The repairs took longer than expected because of the different types of wires on the downed pole and the difficulty of coordinating repairs by three different utility companies, said Rick Thompson, Ardsley's highway superintendent.

The road was closed Tuesday after a man driving a box truck swerved and hit a utility pole, which held electricity and cable wires, Thompson said. The man suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment.

ARDSLEY, N.Y. – Motorists in Ardsley will have to rearrange their travel routes this afternoon – and possibly the rest of the day – after the village closed both directions of traffic on Route 9A, also known as Saw Mill River Road, because of a downed utility pole.

The utility pole fell on Route 9A at Sylvia Avenue at The Atria – Woodlands Senior Center, said Ardsley Village Manager George Calvi, in an email. Con Edison is on the scene dealing with live wires and the road could be closed for up to eight hours, Calvi said in the email.

Village offices did not say how the utility pole was damaged.

The email advised motorists to find an alternative route if they need to travel in the area.
