A story from Gannett's Albany bureau said six sex offenders were found to be living near prekindergartens in Mount Vernon, three in Yonkers, two in New Rochelle and one in White Plains.

The state Senate passed a package of bills last week that strengthen laws against sex offenders. The bills close loopholes that allow convicted sex offenders to live near facilities that run pre-K programs.

The state Court of Appeals also ruled last week that state and local governments can restrict where registered sex offenders live.

The coalition report was conducted by the offices of Independent Democratic Conference Leader Jeff Klein, D-Bronx/Westchester, and state Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos, R-Nassau.
