Silo Structures On Tappan Zee Bridge Collapse, Causing Spills

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Crews had to shut down two of the floating concrete plants being used in the construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge after one silo tipped over and caused two others to collapse on Tuesday, according to LoHud.com.

Police were notified of the incident at approximately 9:30 a.m. and the Department of Environmental Conservation dispatched a team to confirm that no liquid cement spilled into the river, LoHud.com reported. 

Authorities did not say what kind of impact the accident would have on construction timetables. The first section is schedyled to open in December 2016, LoHud.com said.
