Soccer Shop Expansion May Create Empty Storefront

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Dan D’Angelo, owner of The Village Soccer Shop in Dobbs Ferry, said he will be taking his business down the road to Tarrytown where he hopes to see more foot traffic.

“This is just something that came up, it wasn’t planned,” he said, adding that the new spot has "good rent, great visibility and parking.  It was too good to pass up.”

It doesn’t necessarily mean the closing of his Dobbs Ferry shop, however, as D’Angelo said he is still undecided about whether he will shut it down.

“I’m not 100 percent yet,” he said.

The decision by D’Angelo could potentially leave yet another empty storefront in the downtown area, though. D’Angelo said the neighboring village may be what’s best for his shop.

“Tarrytown in the spring and summer, it’s packed,” he said.  “I just like the vibrancy of new people coming to town, new faces, the music hall, people coming up from the city.”

While he said his time in Dobbs Ferry has been nothing but positive, D’Angelo said the lack of parking in the downtown deters local foot traffic.

“It’s all about location in retail,” he said.  “It just seemed like this would be the next step.”

His new location will be on Main Street in Tarrytown and D’Angelo said he hopes to start renovating the shop by the end of the month so he can transition throughout the spring time.

D’Angelo said he’ll be providing updates about what to do with his Dobbs Ferry location on his Facebook page .

“Right now I’m just kind of going with it,” he said.
