DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Drum patterns from Guinea, West Africa are the focus of a class being offered by Curious-on-Hudson in Dobbs Ferry.

Djembe master M’Bemba Bangoura will teach basic accompaniment and solo phrasing on the djembe as well as doundoun drums, emphasizing technique and attaining the correct sound.

Students will practice different tempos and rhythms in the workshop, designed for people of varying abilities. Admission is $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Click here to register or call 914-412-8393.

The program runs from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7. Two more will be offered on Dec. 14 and 21.

Bangoura has traveled the world as a performer and teacher of the djembe drum. By the age of twenty-one, he was acclaimed as a master drummer and was invited to play for Ballet Djoliba, the national company of Guinea.

Also at Curious-on-Hudson on Saturday, Dec. 7, is a storytelling event celebrating life along the Hudson River, featuring author Mark Siegel.

Anyone who wants to tell their story is invited to join the group. The goal is to create an evening of stories by anyone old enough to stand in front of the mic and recite an original story.

The event is from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Seating is limited so register in advance to ensure a spot. Admission is $15. Children under 10 are free.
