The gas line repair began on Aug. 22 limiting parking and causing traffic delays in the busy downtown commercial district for at least 20 businesses as the street was excavated and 100-year-old gas mains were replaced.

"We lost a lot of business because people could not park to come in to the store," said Firas Marji of Madaba Deli on Warburton Ave. "The pipes had to be replaced, so we understand. Hopefully, it will be done by Thursday, they say."

The work caused restrictions from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays with no parking allowed on the southbound side of Warburton Avenue from North Street to Protection Engine Company.

Fred Sessions of nearby North Yonkers said he often comes to Hastings to buy lunch and visit local businesses.

"It was okay because there was parking at the public lot across from the post office," Sessions said. "Hastings is a nice, quiet place to shop. Those gas lines looked kind of shaky, so it's good they did the work."

Hastings Police have been onsite and made every effort to accommodate residents/business owners in the affected area over the three-week period. Street repairs are expected to continue through Friday with limited disruption.
