DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. The Dobbs Ferry Summer Music Series returned to Waterfront Park on Wednesday afternoon as local residents relaxed at the first show of the season.
My favorite part is the sunsets and the R and R, said Dobbs Ferry resident Joe Mastriaco. Its just a place to hang out and since weve lived here in town for so long we know a lot of people.
Mastriaco relaxed in a pair of lawn chairs with his wife Rita while the two listened to the live music by the T.J. Tomlin Dixieland All-Stars. He also said the views at the waterfront are something that are talked about across the country so its a great time to sit back and enjoy them.
A few years back we traveled to the Grand Canyon and the tour guide was an archeologist and bus driver, he said. We had driven 2,500 miles and he kept talking about the New Jersey Palisades, so I said I didnt drive 2,500 miles to hear about my back yard.
Other local residents came out to Dobbs Ferry to spend time outdoors with their families at the free concerts that runs all summer long.
Its nice to have some music and be outside, said Sleepy Hollow resident Michael Witmer.
Witmer shared a picnic with his son Emmet and his wife Amy and said while theyre new to the area the show was a pleasant surprise.
He loves music, Amy Witmer said of her young son. This is the first time weve come to this so its a good time.
The free concerts are co-sponsored by Jazz Forum Arts and the village of Dobbs Ferry and run until late August. Each show starts at 6:30 p.m. at Waterfront Park, but will move to the Embassy Community Center in case of rain.
The next show is scheduled for June 20 and features the Suzanne Pittson Quartet. Until then, local residents said they will continue to take advantage of the opportunity on the warm summer nights.
Its just very relaxing, said Dobbs Ferry resident Rita Mastriaco.
