Super Crane Lifts First Of 100-Plus Girders Into Place On New TZ Bridge

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- The "I Lift NY" super crane, one of the largest in the world, lifted the first steel girder on to the new Tappan Zee Bridge Wednesday on top of concrete columns near the shore of Rockland.

The first of the New NY Bridge project’s massive steel girder assemblies travels down the Hudson River from the Port of Coeymans in Albany County.

The 400-foot, 1,100-ton beam is one of more than 100 that will make the journey from the Port of Coeymans near Albany to the the construction site of the  new $3.9 billion bridge.
